Having an online presence is key in today’s digital world and purchasing your domain name is the first step before we can launch your website. A domain name is the address people will type into their browser to find your website (i.e. www.example.com) that’s usually purchased and renewed on a yearly basis. In this article, we’ll walk through the process of purchasing a domain name on GoDaddy, one of the most popular domain registrars.
Step 1: Go to www.godaddy.com and click “Domain” at the top of the page.
Step 2: Enter the domain you want to purchase in the “Search” bar and click “Search.” Godaddy will show you whether or not the domain is available. If it is available, great! If it’s not available, you’ll need to choose a different domain name.
Step 3: Once you’ve found an available domain, select it and click “Add to Cart.”
Step 4: On the next page, select how many years you want to register the domain for and whether or not you want to add privacy protection. Privacy protection hides your personal information from WHOIS databases, which are public records of who owns a given domain name. Once you’ve made your selections, click “Continue to Cart.” I do not recommend purchasing their hosting or business website plans, but you can easily use your GoDaddy domain with external hosting companies
Step 5: On the next page, review your order and then enter your billing information. Once you’ve entered your billing information, click “Place Your Order.” And that’s it! You should receive an email confirming your purchase shortly thereafter.
Congratulations—you now own your domain!
